A Bellefonte man who allegedly tried to have sexual intercourse with a horse was arraigned on criminal attempt and disorderly conduct charges Friday.
A woman who keeps her horse in Deerfield Farms stables, Port Matilda, said she walked in on the man as he was attempting to have sexual intercourse with the animal.
Dale Burris, 54, was arraigned before District Justice Brad Lunsford on one count of criminal attempt, one count of sexual intercourse with animals and one count of disorderly conduct. Burris' preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 14 at the Centre County Courthouse, Bellefonte.
According to Patton Township Police Department documents, the following occurred on the morning of
Oct. 13.
A woman took her 1-year-old granddaughter to the stables. Upon her arrival, the woman noticed an unfamiliar white minivan parked in front of the stables' main barn. She thought the owners had hired a new boarder, so she took her granddaughter down to the stables to introduce herself.
When she reached the stable area, she immediately heard a horse eating grain in one of the stalls that was supposed to be empty.
She went to the stall and saw the top of a man's head "disappear" behind the backend of her friend's horse. She told police that the man kept his back turned to her and would not face her. She said "hello" to the man but he did not answer her, leading her to think that she had caught him urinating.
She told police at that point she noticed the man "seemed to be fooling around in front of him, in his genital area" and she saw a yellow step stool positioned directly behind the horse. She later told police that she believed she had caught the man trying to have intercourse with the horse.
She asked the man what he was doing there and he replied, "This is my friend's horse, and I'm taking care
of it."
The woman asked the man what the name of his friend was and also what the horse's name was; both questions he could not answer. She asked the man what his name was and he replied, "Dale Burris."
The woman told the man he had no business being there and contacted the owners of Deerfield Farms as well as the horse's owner. The owner of the horse then contacted police.
When police interviewed Burris at the station on Oct. 15, Burris told police verbally and in a written statement that he attempted to have sexual intercourse with the horse and when he was unable to penetrate the horse, he masturbated on the rear of the horse, causing Burris to ejaculate on it. Burris admitted to police that the woman had walked in on him and that he lied to her about his intentions of being there, according to police documents.
Burris was unavailable for comment yesterday
